CLAY

Sandy has been in clay since she was six years old, sitting on the bluff on Plumb Island, in Newbury, Mass.  The sound of the waves, the smell of the mud flats, power of the tides, and the texture of the clay squishing through her fingers,  gave her a peace  deep within.

Be it earthenware, stoneware, or Raku the process of taking clay form the earth and transforming it into a useful vessel brings great joy to her heart.  Some pieces are meant for everyday use while others for  special occasion, still others are meant to provoke the heart.

Her experience teaching in  public and private schools, summer camps, and Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as demonstrating at conferences and in spiritual settings is always a blessing.

Raku
As each pot is heated up in a small kiln, it becomes white hot and the glaze looks like honey. The pot is then lifted out of the kiln with long tongs and placed in a container filled with combustible materials.  Instantly it bursts into flame, which lick the sides of the pot creating different colors in the glaze.  A cover is placed over the container, starving the flames of oxygen, the smoke then penetrates into the raw pours of the clay turning them an intense black.  Once the pot has cooled it is washed of ash, revealing the iridescent colors.  Each piece is unique and always a surprise.

The Journey

From ashes to ashes we are told…… But what is in between?
Pain sorrow, grief, the broken pieces of our life…
We all have them whether it is a remembrance form past generations, or in our own life.
Be is physical, emotional, or spiritual. What we choose to do about it is most important.
Do we stay amongst the rubble of our situation, or come up out of the fire!
Embracing the pain,…… Choosing to love.
In our brokenness we cry out
Receiving help for Yeah.
On our face we fall
Recognizing how we have tried to walk along, doing it ourselves, “we” can fix it.. But no
We are empty… helpless
Without the breath form above…
Allowing the Ruach to move through our emptiness
Filling us with hope, expectation, and vision for holiness.
For all we want is to be in His/ Her presence again….
Birthing new life….
A vessel…. Created… to hold
His/ Her Glory..
Am I done? Am I willing to be made new over, and over?
Am I willing to be broken again and made new in the Potters Hands?
Embrace the process, be blessed by Your opportunity o live and move and
Have your being. under the wings… of the Almighty.

Love Never Fails

CLAY SCULPTURE

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold the day’s come, sayeth the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel, and with the House of Judah.

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I make with their fathers in the day that I took them out of the land of Egypt, which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them sayeth the Lord.

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the House of Israel: After those days, sayeth the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts, and will be their G~d… and they shall be my people.

This sculpture of the “old Covenant written on and the “New” Covenant placed in our minds and upon our heart. 24 x24” made of clay and fired in reduction.

Clay Sculpture Family wrapped in the Torah

This clay sculpture embodies the relationship we have with the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Great I am, and the God of the Universe, Yud-Heh-Vav-Heh. The Torah is the written Word of God, for Jews, as well as Christians.

To Trust in the Word is to be wrapped under His wings, Psalm 17:8, or standing under his shadow Psalm 36:7. There are many scriptures about the Word, for me as a Christian John 1:1-14 brings it all together.

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.. Through Him all things were made, with out Him nothing was made that was made and in Him was life and that life was the light of men. [14] The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and love.”

May we all be wrapped in His grace and love, protected form the wiles of this world. This scroll becomes the prayer shawl of Tallit, with the fringes, or TZITZIT hanging, representing the Covenant between God and His people.
Numbers 15:39 “By seeing them you will remember to obey all my commands and will be consecrated to you God.”
Psalm 36: 8-12 is usually read.
In the New Covenant or the Brit Hadashah, we know the women with the issue of blood reached out to hold on to the hem or Tzitzit on Yeshua’s garment, and was healed. Acts 9:20 May we all be reminded of Gods love, and grace. His protection and love especially as we hold the menorah and remember the “Miracle of Light.”

Hand Washing Bowl

Hand Washing has always been a sensible thing to do before you eat, or after playing in the dirt, not to mention just keeping germs from spreading. In the traditions of the Jew the ritual of hand washing was also a visual experience. During the Sabbath Celebration this outward expression allows us to rededicate our hands cleansed form the week, able to be lifted to a pure and Holy God.

Psalm 24:4 asks, “Who can ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has a clean hands and a pure heart. Rededicate your hands to the Lord and serve Him only.

This hand-washing vessel encompasses many teachings concerning the blood sacrifice, the shofar, Tabernacle, and clean hands.

Clay Sculpture Lambs Head Hand washing Bowl

1. The Handles or horns invited you to hold on to the horns of the Sacrificial Alter in the Tabernacle or of the horns on the 4 corners of the Incense Alter. The Shofar or horn was also used to anoint David, I Sam 16:13 and lucky for Isaac a ram was caught in the thicket. Gen 22:13. In Numbers 10:10 we are to blow the shofar to remind God we are at war and to help us! Also as a sound to advance, or the coming of the Lord.

2. The shape of the vessel used to carry the blood sacrifice form the Alter of Sacrifice to the Ark of the Covenant on the Day of Yom Kippur, was not flat but rounded on the bottom. If the blood was laid down, or not kept in motion it would coagulate and be no good. So to with the Blood of Christ, may we stay in motion lest we forget what He did!

3. The face of the ram, lamb, or scapegoat on the vessel reminds us of what the Lord has done for us… taken our place even in the desert, alone, in the unbearable heat to die, a long painful death willing to bear the sin of our flesh and iniquities, the issues of our heart.

4. Psalm 24:1-4 who can ascend the mountain of the Lord? But he who has clean hands and a pure heart.
Only thru the Blood of Jesus, Yeshua, the lamb of God are our hands and heart clean.

Dreidel

The decide is the most popular game played during Hanukkah. Before the revolt from Greek Hellinization the Jews forbidden to pray or celebrate the Sabbath used this toy to trick the enemy.

Celebrating Hanukkah not only reminds us of the oil that lasted 8 days during the rededication of the Temple, but of the strong, courageous men and women, who where wiling to count the cost of standing for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
So stand, up against the false gods of this time and be strong and courageous today!

Enjoy our religious freedoms!

To play the game: Make up your won rules or….
1. Each person starts with the same # of objects. As each person spins the Dreidel, the letter explains what to do:

Nun – Do nothing
Gimmel – takes the pot each puts in 1
Heh – take 1/2 of pot plus 1 [if uneven]
Shin – put 1 in the pot

2. IF the pot is empty all put 1 in before next spin.
3. The game is over when 1 has all!
